about

Ranging from pathos to comic, and from the everyday to the cosmic, Bruce Detrick confirms in these sixteen songs his unerring insight into the human condition. Whether it's a young Henry David Thoreau writing by candlelight in his tiny cabin on Walden Pond, the entire city of New York rushing back and forth on a Crosstown Bus, Orpheus brought back from the gates of Hell by music, a seventeen year old boy in love with an older woman, or the lazy summer afternoon of the apocalypse, Bruce guides us along each journey with surety and style -- bolstered by an incisive sense of humor -- which can only be described as masterful.

Originally released on 25 cassettes (and long "out-of-print") this recording was the first project Bruce and I undertook for release working together as a team. I engineered the sessions and the mixdown, made the cassette dubbing master and took the cover photographs on Nantucket Island right around Bruce's 45th birthday in July of 1986. Together, we put together a lyric sheet, handmade the cassette covers and labels and dubbed each cassette one-by-one. I created this 24-bit remastered version in 2002 and now it sounds even better! Bruce and I hope you like it.
